Earthworm Identification Workshop (London)

London Natural History Society

There are 29 species of earthworm living freely in soils in the UK. The course will begin by giving a general overview of British earthworm species and how to collect and preserve them (to accurately identify British earthworms they do need to be preserved). It will involve identifying the earthworm specimens collected during the Hampstead Heath Earthworm Survey the previous week.

A brief introduction to the taxonomic characters needed for identification will be given followed by a practical session using microscopes under the guidance of ESB tutors. All of the identifications will be uploaded to the national database and contribute towards an updated version of the Hampstead Heath Earthworm Report.

Booking is essential - see below for details. This event is a joint London Natural History Society and Earthworm Society of Britain event.
